why people didn't come forward

there's a big huha about the 4 guys who had their hands on the girl's body.

even though what the guys did was wrong,
the 4 guys were smart enough to take advantage of the situation.
and the girl need to be smarter next time.
i mean how come she's alone?
and girls being girls,
we are just not physically strong compared to the guys.

taking what i learnt from school into use,
this situation about people not coming forward to help out is called bystander effect.

taken from wikipedia "the bystander effect is the somewhat controversial name given to a social psychological phenomenon in cases where individuals do not offer help in an emergency situation when other people are present." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bystander_effect)

furthermore, there were so many people, so people might think that other people might help, so she/he shouldn't help, in the end no one helped out because they have the mindset that other people will do it.
"the greater the number of bystanders, the less likely it is that any one of them will help."

in this situation, girls aren't suppose to help out since they also don't want to be molested by the 4 guys.
thus it will take a very brave man that thinks he can take down the 4 guys to save the girl.
i think people are afraid to get involved.

because i think it will be messy if one were to help out.

guys who were there, what were you doing?

just like the bukit panjang accident,
no one came forward until there were news about the person dying.
why did they don't come forward immediately?
because there's so many things they have to do.
one. time will be waste, they will have to make time off to talk to the police.
two. they will need to make statement and they will need to recall what they see, where, what time, etc.
thus,
it is a hassle.
might as well just keep numb.
well,
if you do that,
you are letting the guilty person free.

now that you know about the bystander effect,
next time when you see a situation,
you need to be kiasu!
do something immediately.
don't assume.
